چکیده

This paper analyses the mathematical properties of an overlapping generations growth model with endogenous labour supply and multiplicative external habits. The dynamics of the economy is characterised by a two-dimensional map describing the time evolution of capital and labour supply. We show that if the relative importance of external habits in the utility function is sufficiently high, multiple (determinate or indeterminate) fixed points and poverty traps can exist. In addition, cyclical or quasi-cyclical behaviour and/or coexistence of attractors may occur. Endogenous preferences represent a topic of greater importance in economic theory. In particular, they influence individual choices about consumption and saving paths over time, and can be responsible of endogenous fluctuations and nonlinear dynamics in macroeconomic variables (e.g., per capita output). This study examines an economic growth model with overlapping generations where habit formation is a source of local and global bifurcations.

Internal habits in an endogenous growth model with elastic labor supply ¬リニ

a r t i c l e i n f o This paper studies the implications of introducing internal versus external habits in an endogenous growth model with elastic labor supply. We first show that the comparative-static effects of a shock in habits parameters are qualitatively different depending on how habits are specified. An increase in the weight of habits in utility raises long-run growth and labor supply...

Endogenous Versus Exogenous Growth Facing a Fertility Shock

This paper simulates the impact of a permanent fertility shock on economic growth, using endogenous versus exogenous growth OLG models. An endogenous growth model, with education as the engine of growth, dampens the negative impact of a decline in fertility on growth when compared with an exogenous growth model. This result stems from the rise in education levels brought about by the expectatio...

Bifurcation and Chaos in Size-Dependent NEMS Considering Surface Energy Effect and Intermolecular Interactions

The impetus of this study is to investigate the chaotic behavior of a size-dependent nano-beam with double-sided electrostatic actuation, incorporating surface energy effect and intermolecular interactions. The geometrically nonlinear beam model is based on Euler-Bernoulli beam assumption. The influence of the small-scale and the surface energy effect are modeled by implementing the consistent ...

Future of the World Oil Market with an Expanding Role of Shale Oil: A System Dynamics Approach

In this paper, we develop a dynamic system model to predict the effects of shale oil production on demand and supply of oil.  We study the interaction between demand and supply of OPEC and non-OPEC member countries and supply of shale oil, oil price, growth of the global economy, development of new oil reserves and  alternative energies. In our model, OPEC acts passively and covers the market d...
